Delhi Capitals’ captain Rishabh Pant has been fined 312 lakh for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct due to a slow over rate during the team’s match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 31.

The incident occurred as DC celebrated their first victory of the season at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, which also marked the first defeat for CSK, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, in this year’s tournament.

This game was also CSK’s initial away match, noting that, except for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), no team has secured an away win so far. KKR, under Shreyas lyer’s leadership, had

previously bested Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Pant’s penalty follows a similar sanction against Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill, who was also fined #12 lakh for a slow over rate during their match against CSK in Chennai. These fines underscore the IPL’s stringent regulations regarding match pace, emphasizing the repercussions of code breaches. For the first offence, the fine is set at 212 lakh, doubling to %24 lakh for a second offence, with additional penalties imposed on team members.

A third offence escalates to a 30 lakh fine for the captain, a one-match suspension, and heftier fines for the rest of the team, indicating the league’s commitment to maintaining the intended flow of the game.
