Srinagar, Jun 26: As Jammu and Kashmir gears up for their upcoming assembly elections, a special summary revision of voter lists commenced on June 25 and will continue until July 24.

As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), during this period, voters can file objections and claims from July 25 to August 9, with resolutions expected by August 19. The final voter list is anticipated to be released by August 20.

The number of polling stations is set to increase compared to previous Lok Sabha elections. To accommodate more than 1,500 voters per station, provisions for setting up two polling stations will be made. An election official noted that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other related staff are actively engaged in special summary activities. The voter count in the upcoming voter lists is expected to surpass those from the 2014 assembly elections.

Starting June 25, BLOs will conduct door-to-door verification to address errors in the voter list, improve photo quality, expand the control table, set polling station boundaries, and prepare necessary formats. This will include correcting address related errors in the voter list, improving photo quality in voter lists, expanding the control table including setting the boundaries of polling stations, preparing formats 1 and 8. The draft list will be prepared on July 1, 2024. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) will address claims and objections on weekends.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during an International Yoga Day event in Srinagar, reaffirmed his commitment to holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and restoring its statehood. The Supreme Court has also mandated that the assembly elections be conducted by September 2024.
