Day after heavy rainfall, scorching heat grips Kashmir again

Qazigund records heat wave; MeT predicts rains for next few days

Srinagar, Aug: Amidst the forecast of intermittent light to moderate rains, the scorching heat has once again gripped Jammu and Kashmir on Friday a day after the heavy rainfall was recorded at multiple places in the Union Territory. Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, is the only station where a heat wave was recorded today.

In Qazigund, the mercury settled at 33.0 degree Celsius, which was 5.0 degree Celsius above normal temperature.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), most stations across J&K recorded a maximum temperature above 30 degree Celsius with Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K recording 33.4 degree Celsius.

Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, recorded a maximum temperature of 28.8 degree Celsius while in Kupwara, the mercury settled at 33.1 degree Celsius.

Kokernag and Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, recorded a maximum temperature of 31.8 degree Celsius and 21.8 degree Celsius respectively.

However, Jammu city has recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1 degree Celsius while in Banihal, the mercury settled at 30.2 degree Celsius.

Batote, Katra and Bhaderwah stations recorded a maximum temperature of 27.7 degree Celsius, 32.0 degree Celsius and 31.7 degree Celsius respectively.

Moreover, the weatherman here has predicted generally cloudy weather till August 04 with possibility of spells of intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershower at many places of Kashmir division and most places of Jammu division.

From August 05 to 07, a spell of rain and thundershower are expected at scattered places of Kashmir division and widespread places of Jammu division, Director Meteorological department (MeT) Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said, adding that from August 08 to 11, there is a possibility of a spell of rain and thundershower at scattered places.

Furthermore, the MeT has issued an advisory, saying that intense showers for brief period with possibility of flash floods, cloud bursts, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones over vulnerable places of J&K and heavy rainfall at few places of Jammu division during next four days and isolated heavy rain over Kashmir division for the next two days.

Pertinently, the district administration Srinagar issued advisory in wake of the inclement weather conditions, asking the people to refrain from venturing in and around the water bodies.
