Srinagar, Dec 11: Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced on Wednesday that the distribution of textbooks for government school students will begin shortly, marking the start of the new academic session.

Speaking to News Agency, Itoo assured, “We are working on ensuring that free textbooks reach deserving students as soon as possible. The distribution process will commence in the coming days.” She also mentioned that some textbooks are already stocked in the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) stores.

Meanwhile, JKBOSE officials confirmed that several textbooks are available at their regional stores in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions. “We have placed orders for publishing textbooks based on requisitions from Chief Education Officers (CEOs) in various districts,” an official stated.

He further added, “Some titles have already been received, and we will initiate the distribution process shortly.” It is noteworthy that in previous years, delays in textbook distribution have significantly impacted students in government schools.

Many students faced hardships due to the late arrival of free textbooks, even after the academic year had started. In 2023, the department failed to deliver textbooks on time, with a delay of nearly two months after schools reopened. Such delays have often left students struggling, as they rely heavily on the free resources provided by the education department.

The government’s prompt action this year is aimed at addressing this long-standing issue and ensuring that students receive their learning materials without delay.
