Srinagar, Jan 31 : Several higher areas of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, while the plains experienced rainfall on Friday, leading to a drop in temperature across the Valley.
As per reports, light snowfall was recorded in the higher reaches of Gurez, Sonamarg, Gulmarg, Sinthan Top, Pir Ki Gali, and other mountainous regions. Independent weather forecaster Aadil Maqbool reported that Gurez received 4 inches of snow, Sonamarg recorded 8 inches, while Sinthan Top and Pir Ki Gali saw 3 inches of accumulation.
Additionally, snowfall was also reported from DK Marg, Noorabad Kulgam, and Baltal Pahalgam. Gulmarg and its surrounding areas were experiencing snowfall at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, the plains, including Srinagar, witnessed rainfall, causing temperatures to drop further. Below-normal temperatures were recorded in Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Qazigund, and Kokernag.
According to the Meteorological Department, more snowfall is expected over the next 24 hours. Light rain and snow may occur in scattered areas from this evening until the morning of February 1. The weather is likely to remain partly to mostly cloudy on February 2, while on February 3, there is a chance of light rain or snow in some places during the evening.
On February 4, light to moderate rain and snow are expected in many areas, while on February 5, scattered places may experience light rain or snow in the early morning. The weather is predicted to remain mostly cloudy from February 6 to 8.
The MeT department has advised tourists, travelers, and transporters to follow the guidelines issued by the administration and traffic authorities.
