Srinagar, Jan 9: The Ministry of Home Affairs has transferred Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar to the Delhi segment of the AGMUT cadre.

According to an official order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the approval of the Competent Authority, Vijay Kumar, an IPS officer from the 1997 batch, has been moved from Jammu and Kashmir to the Delhi AGMUT cadre. The transfer takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

During his tenure as IGP and later as ADGP in Kashmir, combating terrorism remained a top priority under Kumar’s leadership.

Originally from Saharsa district in Bihar, Kumar holds a Master’s degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

Kumar has spent most of his career serving in some of the most conflict-prone areas of Kashmir, including Pulwama, Awantipora, Kulgam, and Anantnag.

He is the only IPS officer from the former Jammu and Kashmir cadre with significant experience managing both anti-terrorism and anti-Maoist operations, as well as handling law and order situations both within and outside the region.

With extensive field experience in Kashmir, Kumar has served in the Special Operations Group (SOG), the anti-terrorism wing of the J&K Police, particularly in south Kashmir. His contributions have been widely recognized for enhancing security in troubled areas.
