Srinagar, Feb 4: People in different parts of Kashmir held demonstrations and a candlelight vigil on Tuesday to protest the killing of a former soldier in a terror attack, officials said.
Terrorists killed ex-serviceman Manzoor Ahmad Wagay and injured his wife and 13-year-old niece in Behibagh village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday. This was the first civilian killing in a terror attack this year.
To express their grief and condemnation, people held candlelight vigils in Kulgam, Anantnag, Baramulla, and Kupwara districts.
The attack has been widely condemned. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured that those responsible would be punished.
“I strongly condemn this brutal terrorist attack on Manzoor Ahmad Wagay and his family. The entire country stands with the bereaved family in this difficult time. I have directed officials to provide the best medical care to the injured. Praying for their quick recovery,” he said.
“I promise that the attackers will be brought to justice soon,” he added.
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed his sorrow, stating, “Such acts of violence have no place in our society and must be condemned in the strongest way.–(PTI)
