JAMMU, JANUARY 15 (TKA): Addressing public concerns over the recent deaths in Budhal village, Rajouri district, the Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, stated that efforts are underway to determine the exact reason behind these tragic incidents.

The Minister revealed that a thorough door-to-door health assessment was conducted in the affected village, covering over three thousand residents. Various samples, including water, food, and other items, were collected and sent for detailed analysis.

“All the tests conducted so far, including those on water, food grains, biscuits, and other household items, have shown no signs of contamination or infection,” the Minister explained. She added that even tests for influenza and other viral diseases returned negative results.

To ensure comprehensive scrutiny, the health department sought assistance from national-level institutions like the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), National Institute of Virology, National Centre for Disease Control, DRDO, PGIMER Chandigarh, and others. Reports from these institutions confirmed no evidence of infectious diseases or contamination.

Sakeena Itoo mentioned that the deaths occurred within three families residing about 1.5 kilometers apart. She emphasized that over the last 40 days, the health department provided continuous support in the area, including ambulances, medicines, and other essential supplies. “If it were an infectious disease like COVID-19, it would have spread by now, but no health concerns have been identified,” she assured.

The Minister further stated that the police and district administration are continuing their investigations to uncover the actual cause. She extended her condolences to the affected families and stressed that the government is treating this matter with utmost importance.

“The safety and well-being of our people remain our top priority. Every possible step will be taken to find the truth behind these deaths,” she added.

She appealed to the public to stay calm and cooperate with the authorities during the investigation. The Minister reassured citizens that the government is fully committed to resolving this issue swiftly and effectively.
