KUPWARA, JANUARY 24: In a progressive step towards enhancing the livelihoods of the fishing community in Kupwara district, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ms. Ayushi Sudan handed over keys of auto-rickshaws equipped with ice boxes to two fishermen under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

The event was held in the presence of MLA Langate, Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh and Assistant Director Fisheries Kupwara, Dr. Salman Rauoof Chalkoo. The initiative aims to empower fishermen by improving their transportation and storage facilities. The autorickshaws with ice boxes will help ensure the freshness of fish during transit, reduce post-harvest losses, and enable better market access for the fishermen.

This step reflects the Administration’s commitment to supporting sustainable aquaculture practices and boosting the socio-economic status of the fishing community.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the government’s dedication to implementing welfare schemes for the upliftment of local communities. She encouraged fishermen to make the best use of the facilities provided and assured them of continued support.

AD Fisheries Kupwara highlighted the importance of such initiatives under the PMMSY scheme, which seeks to transform the fisheries sector by promoting modern techniques and resources.Meanwhile, the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Department of Fisheries & District Administration for addressing their needs and pledged to utilize the resources for better productivity and income generation.
