Srinagar, Jul 22 : Fresh cases of gastroenteritis have been reported in Trail Srigufwara in Sallar medical block of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday, officials said.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sallar, Dr Zahoor Ahmad Sofi told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that three fresh cases have been reported today from the village.

Earlier, over 100 people were hospitalized after developing gastroenteritis issues, creating panic in the hamlet.

However, the BMO Sallar told KNO that the situation is very much under control, adding that they are working on chlorination of water. “Besides door to door survey has been started,” he said.

Officials had on Saturday claimed a large population including elderly people in Trail village of Srigufwara suffered loose motions and vomiting, following which the health teams reached the area and all the affected people were hospitalized.

He said that most of the affected people were discharged after a short stay while others are recovering.

Locals have accused the Jal Shakti for the prevailing situation and demanded investigation in this regard.

Nonetheless, the Jal Shakti department has maintained that water from the same source and scheme is being supplied to around 10 villages, but gastroenteritis cases have been reported from only one village.

Officials said that as a precautionary measure, the water samples have been taken to ascertain the cause behind gastroenteritis outbreak.

M Y Zagoo, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anantnag told KNO that the situation is under control while the severity of the disease has gone down and all necessary measures are being taken in this regard.

He urged people to drink boiled water and proper emphasis must be given towards hygiene.
