Srinagar, Jul 09 : The Health and Medical Education department of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir under the leadership of Secretary Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Tuesday notified leave rules for Senior Residents, Post-graduate students, and Post-graduate DNB students to bring more transparency and efficiency to the system.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the policy as per the order issued by Health and Medical Education aims to standardize leave entitlements and ensure adherence to national guidelines.

For Senior Residents and Tutors:

Senior Residents and Tutors are entitled to one day off per week, subject to work exigencies. Additionally, they can avail of 20 days of casual leave and five days of academic leave annually, provided the academic program is relevant to their course.

Female Senior Residents and Tutors are eligible for Maternity Leave and MTP/Abortion Leave as per existing government regulations.

Male counterparts will receive paternity leave under the same regulations. Notably, the tenure or course duration will be extended by the number of days of maternity/paternity leave taken.

For PG Students:

PG students also enjoy a weekly day off, subject to work demands, along with 20 days of casual leave and five days of academic leave per year, contingent on the program’s relevance.

Female PG students can avail of maternity leave and MTP/abortion leave according to existing rules, while male PG students will receive paternity leave. The policy stipulates that the period of training will be extended to cover the days of Maternity/Paternity Leave and any excess Casual Leave, in line with the National Medical Commission (NMC) norms.

For DNB PG Students:

DNB PG students are eligible for up to 20 days of Casual Leave annually, excluding regular duty off and gazetted holidays. Female DNB PG students are entitled to Maternity Leave and MTP/Abortion Leave, while male students can avail of Paternity Leave as per government regulations. The guidelines of the National Board of Examinations (NBE) will be strictly followed.

The new policy mandates strict adherence to the guidelines and norms set by the NMC and NBE.

Any updates or changes to these guidelines will automatically be incorporated into the leave policies for Senior Residents, Tutors, and PG students at Government Medical Colleges and DNB PG students.
