J&K Police prepared for upcoming Lok Sabha elections: IGP Kashmir VK Birdi

Stresses officers to adopt modern technology for better policing

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi on Saturday that J&K Police is prepared for the upcoming elections in the union territory.Speaking to reporters here, the IGP, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “We are fully prepared for the upcoming polls, as J&K Police always remains ready for any event, whether elections or anything else.”Regarding the drug menace, he said police are committed to eradicating the menace from society and are making every effort to rid society of this evil.”The drug menace is a societal evil and J&K Police is making every effort to root out the drug menace in all districts,” he said.

The IGP, according to a police spokesperson, was on a significant visit to south Kashmir’s RPHQ Anantnag and Kulgam district, where he chaired a crucial security review meeting and inaugurated a Fitness Gym Centre at DPL Kulgam.During his visit to RPHQ Anantnag, he inspected the office premises, and engaged with officers and officials to gather insights and suggestions for their welfare and operational efficiency.In Kulgam, the IGP convened a comprehensive meeting with the officers including DIG SKR Anantnag Altaf Ahmad Khan, SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal and other police officers.

The meeting centred on strategic measures to enhance security, foster community engagement, combat the threat of OGWs, tackle the drug menace, and ensure the peaceful conduct of upcoming elections, the spokesperson said.Birdi stressed the importance of establishing a robust security grid and fostering collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure a cohesive approach.

He emphasised the importance of leveraging modern technology for transparent and result-oriented policing, particularly in combating drug trafficking.The IGP underscored the need for swift disposal of pending cases, especially NDPS cases, and urged officers to adopt innovative approaches.Recognising the pivotal role of public cooperation, V K Birdi urged the officers to devise more effective mechanisms to ensure public safety, particularly in countering misinformation spread on social media platforms.

The Kashmir police chief also inaugurated the Fitness Gym Centre at District Police Lines Kulgam, encouraging officials to utilise the facility to maintain physical fitness.

He conducted an inspection of DPL and various police stations and stressed the officers to adopt modern technology for better and transparent policing which is result-oriented and people-friendly.The IGP Kashmir emphasised result-oriented disposal of pending cases, especially NDPS cases.

Throughout his visit, he reiterated the commitment of J&K Police to uphold peace, security and the rule of law, calling for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to safeguard the interests of the community. (KNO)
