Srinagar, Feb 12 : People in Kashmir are preparing to observe Shab-e-Barat on Thursday night with deep religious feelings. A large number of people are expected to gather at major shrines like Dargah Hazratbal and Jamia Masjid Srinagar.

Many worshippers plan to pray throughout the night, asking for blessings and forgiveness from Allah.

Thousands of devotees are expected at Hazratbal Shrine for special prayers. “The shrine’s management has made all necessary arrangements to handle the crowd and ensure everything goes smoothly,” said an official from Hazratbal.

Meanwhile, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar announced that Kashmir’s chief cleric, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr. Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, will give a sermon after Maghrib prayers at 7:30 PM. He will talk about the significance and blessings of Shab-e-Barat.

After the sermon, there will be a collective prayer for forgiveness (Tawba & Istighfar), followed by Isha prayers at 9:00 PM. “Mirwaiz’s visit to Jamia Masjid is planned according to the permission given by the authorities,” said the Auqaf.

People in Kashmir are eagerly looking forward to the occasion, with many planning to spend the night in prayer, seeking Allah’s mercy.

Muhammad Yaseen, a resident of Srinagar, said Shab-e-Barat is a night of forgiveness, and they spend it in deep prayer, asking for Allah’s blessings for themselves and their families.

Another local, Shahzan, shared, “This is a time for spiritual reflection. The atmosphere at Hazratbal, Jamia Masjid, and other places in the valley is always full of devotion. I plan to pray at either Jamia Masjid or Hazratbal Srinagar.”

Shab-e-Barat is observed on the 14th of Sha’ban and holds great importance in Islam. It is believed to be the night when destinies are written, and Allah’s mercy is given to those who sincerely seek forgiveness.

Authorities have asked people to maintain discipline during the gatherings. “All necessary arrangements, including security and sanitation, have been made at the main religious sites,” an official said—(KNO)
