Srinagar, Jun 20 : The political parties in Jammu and Kashmir welcomed the statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi wherein he claimed that the process for the Jammu & Kashmir assembly polls have been started and urged the government to restore the Statehood before the elections.
National Conference (NC) Provincial President, Kashmir, Nasir Aslam Wani while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the Supreme Court (SC) has already passed the directions for conducting the polls in Jammu & Kashmir and now the Prime Minister himself makes a statement over it is a good sign.
“We are expecting the polls will be held at earliest and the Election Commission of India should now come out with the calendar as well,” he said, adding that the Statehood to J&K should also be restored even before the polls.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman, Najam-us-Saqib, said that they have been hearing about the conduct of elections from the Prime Minister since 2019. “It has been five years now and we have been hearing it again today. We hope the Prime Minister will walk the talk now,” he said.
“We hope that whatever has been snatched on August 5 will also be restored,” he said, adding that they also hope that Prime Minister means it and there is seriousness in his statement this time.
