Kishtwar, December 9 (TKA) : The Power Development Department (PDD) Kishtwar carried out an intensive inspection drive in the town to tackle the widespread use of banned nichrome-based heaters, boilers, and other unauthorised electrical loads.
The operation, led by Assistant Executive Engineer Er. Showkat Khan of the Electric Sub-Division Kishtwar, alongside a team of engineers and field staff, focused on reducing feeder overloading and preventing damage to vital power infrastructure and cables.
During the crackdown, approximately 140 illegal heaters, boilers, and similar devices were seized and destroyed. This initiative reduced the power load by nearly half a megawatt (MW), providing significant relief to the strained electricity distribution network.
The PDD has announced plans to expand these inspection drives to rural areas in the coming days, ensuring strict enforcement of power usage regulations throughout the district.
The department also issued a strict warning against tampering with electricity meters, stating that violators will face heavy fines and legal action under the Electricity Act, which includes the possibility of imprisonment.
Residents have been urged to adhere to power usage guidelines and avoid using unauthorised appliances. The PDD has also encouraged the public to report instances of meter tampering or illegal power usage to the authorities for necessary action.___(TKA)
