Srinagar, January 14: Meteorological experts have forecasted that a minor Western Disturbance will influence the weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 hours, possibly resulting in light snowfall in higher elevation areas.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, this weak disturbance is anticipated to impact the region between January 15th and 16th, with light snowfall expected in picturesque locations such as Sonamarg and its adjacent regions.

“The prevailing weather pattern across the region is expected to remain mostly dry until January 20th,” stated the Meteorological Office.

Moreover, there is a likelihood of another wet spell around January 20th to 21st.

Meanwhile, there has been a marginal improvement in night temperatures under cloudy skies, although temperatures still remained below freezing, leading to severe cold conditions throughout the Kashmir valley on Wednesday.

During the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, the minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at -4.2°C, compared to -5.1°C recorded the previous night, which was 2.2°C lower than the average for this time of year in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pahalgam remained the coldest place in the Kashmir valley, with a minimum temperature of -7.8°C on Wednesday, which was 1.9°C lower than the normal for this tourist spot in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Gulmarg also recorded a slight improvement in temperatures, with the mercury settling at -6.2°C, up from -6.5°C the previous day, which was 1.6°C above the normal average for this ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Kupwara recorded a minimum temperature of -4.7°C, compared to -5.5°C the previous night, which was 2.2°C lower than normal for this frontier district in north Kashmir.

Kokernag, a popular picnic spot in south Kashmir, maintained a minimum temperature of -3.4°C for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, which was slightly below the normal average for this area.

Qazigund, situated on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, recorded a minimum temperature of -5.6°C, up from -6.4°C recorded the previous night, which was 2.6°C below normal for this gateway to Kashmir, according to the Meteorological Office.
